Artistic influences:
Jacopo da Pontormo, May 24, 1494 – January 2, 1557. Italian Mannerist painter and portraitist from the Florentine School.
Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun, also known as Madame Le Brun, 16 April 1755 – 30 March 1842. French portrait painter during the rococo and neoclassical period. She was the official painter of Queen Marie Antoinette of France. Influencing the artist because of her personality as a visionary.
Caspar David Friedrich, 5 September 1774 – 7 May 1840. German artist from the romanticism period, influenced the artist to change her last name to her German family name, Friederichs.
About the artist:
Brazilian-born Rosana Friederichs discovered her passion for painting while studying Interior Design at the Miami International University of Art and Design. During her studies, art classes became a catalyst for creative experimentation, and Rosana found herself drawn to capturing the essence of those around her. With a keen eye for personality, emotions, and even the unspoken desires of her subjects, she transforms these observations into expressive works of art. She often describes her creative process as entering a trance, allowing the art to flow naturally from her.
Growing up, Rosana spent many summers with her German family, particularly at her godparents’ home, where she fondly remembers afternoons spent painting. In honor of her godmother and the renowned artist Caspar Friedrichs, she adopted her family’s German surname for her artistic identity.
Rosana’s work is a profound blend of strength and vulnerability, where every brushstroke reveals the complexities of human emotion. Her expressionist portraits are more than just images; they are powerful reflections of the inner worlds we all carry.
Artist statement:
The deep passion that fuels my art is inseparable from my sexuality, flowing through every brushstroke. My paintings are a reflection of who I am—an unapologetic woman who pushes boundaries and breaks rules to let her spirit soar. My blunt, unfiltered expression can be intimidating for those hesitant to face raw honesty or explore their depths. Yet, the core of my work is about inspiration and awakening.
I draw from poetry and history as guiding forces, turning to artists and figures who have unlocked the freedom that comes with uninhibited expression. They found within themselves a timeless fire, waiting to flourish—and I see myself in that same light. My art is a reflection of that journey.
