Despite their exalted status, and in many cases because of it, powerful women have been targets throughout history. Even today, narratives are created to undermine women who've reached the highest levels of politics, business, entertainment and other fields. Some narratives seem to live on forever. It's been nearly 500 years since the second wife of England's King Henry VIII briefly served as queen, and yet debates still rage about the reputation of Anne Boleyn, who was executed in 1536. The same with Queen Marie Antoinette, the last woman to hold that title in France before the blade of a guillotine ended her life in 1793. Both were accused of treason, betrayal, incest and conspiracy. But what killed those who came before us is only making the powerful women of this and future generations stronger. No matter how threatened men continue to be by our strength, our empathy, our intelligence, our passion, our sexuality, we will not linger in the shadows. We're done suffering your slings and arrows. We have a voice. And it's going to be heard.
